I love to take photographs of families surrounded by the natural world, and also in the sanctuary of their own homes. My photography always tells a story, and also documents and reveals the connections we have with our loved ones. In an increasingly busy and digital era, it is the everyday moments we spend with our loved ones, and time spent reconnecting with nature, that I want to capture. My family photography sessions consist of a finely tuned balance of fine art portraits and unobtrusively documented moments. Nominated as one of the top 100 photographers to watch in 2016 and a VSCO Ambassador.
My approach to clients’ portrait sessions is no different to the way I photograph my own family; searching out the fleeting moments and beautiful natural light that are interwoven into our daily lives.Getting to know each of my clients individually is an important part of the bookings process, and helps me to take photographs for them that they will love. Every family session is different so there’s no set formula…only artistic collaboration.
In the words of photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt, “It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter.”
I live with my husband and three kids in South London, and although I love my local area, I sometimes think that I was made to live in the countryside. I'm a child of the 70'sand I now adore collecting all things mid century. Amidst the chaos of everyday life, you'll find me editing my photos, throwing wonky pots on a potters wheel, attempting to practice yoga correctly, and taking my kids and dog to the local woods. My family loves Wales, and lots of the photos of my family you may have seen on my personal work page were taken there.
Having been on the planet for a while now, I am now certain of one thing; often, what seems like a truly awful experience becomes hilarious with hindsight and such memories have become the funny stories we tell around our dinner table!
The long and the short of it is that all families I know are similarly imperfect, and that all the everyday, normal days we live add up and create our future as well as our past. It's our ordinary days spent with our loved ones that need to be preserved and remembered, which is how I came to be a photographer.
I'm also a qualified teacher and before becoming a photographer I used to teach art in schools.
